EPISODE ONE: Just Saying: Real People, Real Talk: Kylie Royal Meehan

Owner FIT WELL YOU

Meet Kylie, a driven Australian business owner and mum who knows the importance of balance — both in life and in her glass. As the founder of a growing wellness-focused brand, Kylie has made several health-conscious changes over the years to support her busy lifestyle. From prioritising movement and mindfulness to eating with intention, her wellness journey is all about finding what feels good. For Kylie, that includes enjoying a glass of wine in moderation — a simple ritual that complements her approach to health and happiness without compromise.

  1. Can you tell us a bit about your business and what inspired you to start it?

Fit Well You was born from a simple idea: to help people join the circle of wellness - to be fit, to be well, to be perfectly you. I set out to offer something more holistic than just a fitness program. A service that supports the whole person - taking into account physical goals,as well as daily commitments, stress, work-life balance, and mental wellbeing.

I wanted to create a space that truly lifts people up and helps them navigate life while still prioritising their health and wellness goals. What started with just a few gym mats in a small training space has grown into a hybrid model, offering both in-person support and accessible online programming. Fit Well You continues to evolve, but its core remains the same: empowering people to feel strong, supported, and connected to themselves.

  1. What health or lifestyle changes have you made in the last few years, and what motivated them?

Over the last few years my approach to training and healthy living has shifted driven by life’s changing demands and a desire for balance over perfection. My three biggest mindset changes have since become my catch phrases!

“Something is always better than nothing.”
“Quality beats quantity.” and
“Preparation is key.”

With so many balls in the air—family, work, and everything in between—these mantras have helped me have more self-compassion and to focus on doing what I can do well.

  1. How do you define wellness in your day-to-day life?

For me, daily wellness is about finding balance and joy in the simple things—time outside, regular movement, nourishing food, and moments of laughter.

One of my favourite daily rituals is as simple as walking my daughter to school each day. Hand in hand we share that time chatting, laughing, and just being present with each other. It may be a small thing for some but for me it's a simple routine that brings me so much joy, even when we are running late!

  1. What role does moderation play in your approach to health and enjoyment?

I'm a big believer in the 80/20 rule—and making sure that 20% is thoroughly enjoyed! For me, moderation means letting go of the all-or-nothing mindset and focusing on consistency, flexibility, and balance. It’s about creating a sustainable lifestyle where health goals and joy can coexist—whether that’s a glass of wine with friends, a rest day, or a slice of cake. Life is meant to be lived, and true wellness lies in finding that sweet spot between discipline and enjoyment.

  1. Do you have any rituals or habits that help you stay grounded as a business owner and parent?

It might sound predictable coming from an Exercise Physiologist, but daily movement really is a non-negotiable for me. When I’ve moved, I think more clearly, I’m happier, more present, and simply a better mum and partner. Life just feels lighter.

If I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, even a short workout can help me reset. Movement is my anchor. It brings me back to myself and helps me feel more grounded, clear, and calm. And it doesn’t always have to be high intensity. Some days, it’s a hard run set; other days, it’s a slow yoga class or a long stretch session. I don’t always get it right but I try hard to listen to what my body needs.

  1. How does enjoying a glass of wine fit into your lifestyle now compared to a few years ago?

A few years ago, especially during the COVID lockdowns, I often reached for a glass of wine out of habit or as a way to unwind after a long challenging day. These days, it’s a much more intentional choice. Now, a glass of wine is something I enjoy with a delicious home-cooked meal or to mark a meaningful moment.

As I move through my 40s, I’ve become even more mindful of how things make me feel, and that includes alcohol. When I do choose to have a glass (or two!) I make sure it’s a good one, and that it’s about enjoyment and celebration.

  1. What advice would you give to others looking to make positive changes without giving up life’s small pleasures?

Start by making small, consistent changes. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small they may seem and surround yourself with the right support and people in your corner. Positive change should never mean giving up all the things you love; it’s about learning how they can fit into a healthier, more balanced life.

You don’t need to overhaul everything overnight. Focus on building habits that feel good and align with your lifestyle. Wellness isn’t about restriction - it’s about intention, awareness, and self-compassion.

Savour the glass of wine. Enjoy the dessert!
